Summer update

So, since I have the strange luxury of sitting on the couch on a Friday afternoon, I decided it was time to update the blog and post a few new recent videos. For those of you who don't recognize the tune, Nealon is singing the Thomas and Friends theme-song. He is ALL ABOUT TRAINS these days. He puts his trains to bed in their shed at night, and wakes them up in the morning. He knows their names, and knows when one is missing. He loves to go on walks in the evenings, and is not always the best about follow the directions to slow down, stop running, etc. so he has been getting too many skinned knees for my liking. I thought about getting him some knee pads but was worried that he wouldn't keep them on.

Chris and I are busier than we ever have been, if you can believe that. I am working two part-time jobs (which amounts to more than one full=time job), and Chris has got a part-time job and is back in school at PSU for a two-year master's program in electrical engineering. Nealon just started day care, and is adjusting very well. He's getting a lot of runny noses, but aside from that, he is playing with other kids. He has come home with one bite-mark and one report that he pushed another kid. So, we have things to work on. We haven't started potty training yet, but I feel like he has probably been ready for a while -- and it's just been us who have not been ready to begin. We will get there soon.

Nealon's 2nd birthday is coming up! This year we are just having a small party in the backyard. Nothing stressful. Our big surprise for Nealon is going to be getting a battery for the Thomas ride-along toy that we picked up at a garage sale. It came with tracks, so that the train will ride around a small circle track! :) He has seen it, but hasn't been able to ride it because the battery has been dead. So that will be a lot of fun.

Nealon is so smart and observant. He can spot a tiny airplane in the distance, and can recognize the sound of one -- and the sound of a train, of course. On our morning commute to his day care (which is on the complete opposite side of town -- a situation that needs to remedied) we always pass a spot where the MAX train is visible -- which excites him very much.

For any family who are reading this, I want to put up some framed photos of family members -- so that Nealon can look at them and remember who everyone is.

I also want to get better about Skyping -- and making Skype dates. With this technology, it's silly that I don't chat with family "face-to-face" more often.

More soon. I promise I will try not to wait three months before posting more videos. I do have some Florida photos that I will upload to Picasa and post a link to.

It's been a while . . . what's new?

Yes, it's been a while. If I still have any readers -- here's a quick update on N. He is starting to put two words together, i.e. a car, a truck, a ball, hot eggs, high five, two hands, etc.

Every morning he is pulling on my hand saying "Up, mama!"

Whenever I am getting ready to leave (which is far too frequently it seems) he fantasizes and looks at Chris and says "Bye, dada!" and waives -- like either Chris is leaving or he is coming with me. (Poor Chris . . . although, I must admit that this both secretly pleases me and breaks my heart at the same time).

When Chris and N drop me off at work -- which is usually just on Mondays -- Nealon will give me a kiss and then blow kisses and waive bye-bye. So sweet!! He even blows kisses to his bank teller friend in the drive-through at the US Bank in our neighborhood.

Today he was trying to sing through the plastic vacuum extension piece. Anything that looks like a microphone, he is all over. His other new trick is trying to do a front roll. He does a downward dog position with his head on the ground, and then we help him flip his body over.

He also remains a big fan of balls. The last time we went to the park, some guys were playing a pick-up b-ball game and there was an extra basketball lying on the side of the cement court. Nealon quickly picked that up and wanted to get in on the game. Another mom offered up her 2.5 yr-old son for N to pass the ball with -- but N kept turning around towards the big boys and wanting to shoot!

He knows the sound a train makes (woo-woo) and that a car makes (beep-beep).

That's all for now. All is well. I done with classes for the term, and have only two finals to take. I will post some new pics soon. He is such a handsome fella. I am so proud.

We will be in FL from May 13th - 23rd. Looking forward!
