Nealon with Grandma Jackie

We just dropped Chris's mom off at the airport after a week visit, and were sorry to see her leave! It was such a treat to have her company. She was so good with Nealon, and we learned a lot from her -- from how to get Nealon to sleep on his tummy in the bassinet, to how to get him to suck his pacifier and not want to eat every waking hour, how to make him comfortable, how to bathe him so he stays happy, etc. We didn't do much sight-seeing and mostly just stayed around the house, but we watched lots of Korean movies on Netflix and the Olympics. She was great fun, and we get along really well.







She cooked us really yummy Korean food while she was here, and we went out to eat Korean, Japanese, and Chinese/Vietnamese foods.




Also while she was here we had our 2-week baby check-up with Alisha. Nealon weighed in at 9 lbs. 1 oz., and is healthy. We are still waiting to get a conclusive result to Nealon's second PKU test. His first test resulted in a high phenylalanine level, which suggests that he may have Phenylketonuria. The normal range for the presence of phenylalanine is 16 to 71, and his first test level was 382, so we had to go back and get more testing. His second test level was 400, which is high, but not high enough to cause harm according to the doctor at OHSU. The danger zone begins at 600 apparently, so we have to go back to the lab again on the 22nd to check the level again. And we should have the result from the 2nd PKU test by then as well. Sigh... So, eventually we may to have a very restricted diet if his body is unable to metabolize phenylalanine, but at least it is manageable. That's the update on that.
